An emotional or cognitive well being is called mental health. Mental health can also be defined as a level of health where there is no clinical mental illness. According to positive psychology, emotional health is actually an individual’s ability to cope up with life’s pressure and enjoy life. It is a balance between life activities and efforts. It is the state where it measures the capacity to express our emotions and feelings.

Characteristics of Mental Health

 The World Health Organization defines mental health as a “state of well-being in which an individual can express a balanced character. Where They can properly understand the nuances of life. Mental wellbeings contribute to the well of the community”. Every year Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October all over the world to raise a voice and objective awareness about mental health.

Behavioral health is not just a state but a range of different values. It is a state without any diagnosable mental health problems or illness. The definition of mental wellbeings can be a life with full creative growth. It highlights the emotional well being of an individual. The ability to deal with life’s inevitable challenges. Positive psychology is an increasingly prominent part of mental health.

Behavioral health has to do with how you feel about yourself. It also deals with how you feel about other people. How you are able to meet and handle the demands of life. There is no line that separates the mentally healthy from the unhealthy. Realistically, the entire population exists along a spectrum that includes chemical imbalances in our brains. we do know that the right amount of sleep and exercise and a proper diet and proper medical care is very important. It is very essential for improving both our physical and mental wellbeings.

Causes of Mental Illness

In contrast most, people believe that mental disorders are rare. Most noteworthy, mental disorders are common in our society. Studies show that 1 in 5 adults suffer from mental illness. Furthermore,54 million Americans are diagnosed with some form of mental disorder every year.

Mental illness is a disease that causes mild to severe disturbances in thought or behaviors. There are more than 200 classified forms of mental illness. Some of the more common forms of mental illness are depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, dementia, and schizophrenia. Symptoms may include changes in mood, personality, personal habits or social withdrawal.

Behavioral health problems may be related to excessive stress due to a particular situation. As with cancer, diabetes and heart disease, mental illnesses are often physical as well as emotional and psychological. Mental illnesses are a result of the reaction to environmental stresses, genetic factors, biochemical imbalances, or a combination of other factors.So, with proper care and treatment, many individuals learn to cope or recover from a mental illness or emotional disorder.

Therefore It depends on professions, communities, societies, and cultures aspects. Therefore, while treating mental illness or regain a mental health one has to look after the cultural and religious background of the individuals.
